Migrating From Google Mail to Spirelight Mail

When preparing to migrate mailboxes from Google Mail (Google Workplace) to Spirelight Web's Email service, there are a few steps that must be taken that are unique to Google Mail.

Enable 'Less Secure Apps' access from the Google Admin account.

First, whatever account is designated as the Google Administrator will need to enable 'Less Secure App' access for all Users on the domain.


To do this, log in to https://admin.google.com with the Google Administrator username and password.


From the Admin dashboard, choose 'Security' > 'Access and data control' > 'Less secure apps' from the left sidebar menu.


Then, select the option to 'Allow users to manage their access to less secure apps' and click 'Save' like this:


Then, each email account on your domain will need to log in to https://mail.google.com and address these two items:

  1. Verify that IMAP access is "Enabled" for their Google Mail account.

From their Google Mail inbox, click the 'Gear' icon, and then select the 'See all settings' button like this:

From there, select 'Forwarding and POP/IMAP' in the Settings menu.

Then, scroll down until you see the 'IMAP Access' section.

Make sure that 'Enable IMAP' is selected there like this:


  1. Enable access for 'Less Secure Apps'.

Each user will need to click the 'Apps' icon in their Google Mail menu.

Then, they'll click the button that says 'Account' like this:

From there, choose 'Security' in the left sidebar menu.

Scroll down until you find 'Less secure app access' and turn that setting to 'On'
